In ancient Ireland, Druids and kings admired the fox for its beauty, intelligence and swiftness. Such was its popularity that it would be tamed and kept by rulers as a precious pet and companion. Yet, over time, as people settled in villages and started to keep hens, foxes became generally mistrusted for their cunning ways. This is why more recent folklore associates fox with bad luck and storms.
